In this article, we dive into entertainement marketing in 2020 and how to make it effective for you, as a personal brand or a business. We’re in a digital era where advertising goes way over our head most of the time, that’s when good marketing comes in. Strong ad copy, well defined targeted demographic and quality content.
How do you entertain yourself on an off day? Through social media, video platforms, Netflix, Hulu and so on. Ads are all over the place, and most of them are more than forgettable. Your marketing as an entertainer needs to come out of the lot, make an impression. Clearly it isn’t as easy as it used to.
Let’s get right to it.
What Is It?
Entertainment marketing is a type of marketing that uses the entertainment world to promote, push or sell a brand, product. or a person. it is meant to connect brands, people, companies and individuals to the right person or similar company. Think of an actor promoting himself… his or her goal will definitely be to connect and be showned in front of producers, agents, casting agencies. That’s how it works. Once you master that, you’re in for a good growth ride.
Entertainment Marketing in 2020 – Product Placements
Product placement involves brands, like a logo or specific product someone will promote. They pay for ads that will appear in entertainment media. It can be as simple as wearing a specific brand of clothing, shoes, sunglasses in a music video or having a known celebrity driving a car model.
Remember in E.T., they used Reese Pieces to have him come out of hiding. That’s straight up brand placement and it works. People then have the chocolate brand on their mind and will see it on shelves and buy it. Same goes for billboards and what is promoted on them. Brand advertising is all over the place.
Entertainment marketing is as strong as it gets right now. The reach on social media is ridiculously high due to the ton of active users on a daily basis.
Product placement isn’t always the best idea, remember the Pepsi debacle in World War Z with Brad Pitt… Yeah! Others criticized the movie Jurassic World for its arguably funny depiction of a commercialized theme park.
Celebrity Endorsements
Social influencers are all the hype right now…. but honestly if you’re like the rest of us, some random person on Instagram telling you this/that product is great is never gonna make up buy it. On the other hand, you’ve got a video of a known celebrity talking about how cool that new coffee machine (cough, Clooney, cough) and we’re all about that Nespresso machine 😉
Entertainment marketing in 2020 is still crazy strong. You just need to understand the limitations that are set in front of you. These can be simply quantified with:
- your ad budget (how much are you willing to spend to be famous
- your social following before promoting yourself (if you’re already famous, its gonna be real cheap and easy to grow)
- the competition in your niche (if you’re a banjo performer, you’ll be easily growing compared to the girl who tries to be a model) Market Saturation 101
- the current trend (depending on when you’re promoting yourself, the current trend might be leaning toward your niche or some other niche)
Think about celebrity endorsement as a massive investment… it aint cheap! So find the right time, sponsor and create the best advertising campaign you can think of to be sure you invest your money. Being sponsored by a celebrity is not cheap, make sure you put your hard earned money in the right place.
Why Entertainment Marketing Works?
People love to be entertained, that’s where you come in. You have a talent, use it. Entertainement marketing is about using your skills to… you know… entertain people. And guess what, there’s space for everyone to grow.
Let’s get you going, we’re always prepared for a new challenge.
